things that are important to remember:
- generalizations of white people don’t get them killed
have a nice day
…and notice how it’s never anything really harmful. ”White people can’t dance” or ”white people love mayo”. Oop, yeah…not…
Which is exactly what svphie agreed with…..
Did you have a point or are you just mashing the reblog button?
and I would also guess that the ‘all whites are oppressors’ and the ‘violence against oppressors is right, legitimate, and good’ messages never ever met.
Hi fellow white person,
I’m here to collect you.
You need to stop acting like a group of oppressed people ( in this case, POC ) pointing out their oppression, fighting their oppression, and finding ways to cope with oppression is worse than them actually being oppressed.
You’ve fallen for classic white supremacy logic here. You made it all about you.
You saw a factual statement: “Generalizations about white people do not get them killed.” and you took personal offense and decided to derail conversation.
While it may be true that some crime is “anti-white” I would be interested if there are statistics for my follow up question: What percentage of those crimes were prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law? If we were to look at the sentences given out for these cases, I wonder if we would find that POC received much harsher sentences than whites who committed the same crimes. I betcha we would.
You see, the entire criminal justice system is stacked to benefit white people. White people receive less convictions, lesser sentences, etc. despite the fact that most crime in the US is committed by white people.
How many stories have you heard about a white kid being shot by police while he was taking out the trash, sleeping in his home, walking down the street, or cuffed in the back of a cop car? If you find any of those, how did the press and community react to those incidents? Were they treated as horrible tragedies and crimes that needed to be investigated? Because when this happens to POC, most of the time nothing happens in response besides POC communities being told they are “playing the race card” when POC victims of violence do not receive justice.
Generalizations about POC, which has been happening for a loooooong ass time, leads to POC getting killed. When a white supremacist society like our own teaches that POC are more likely commit crime, take drugs, steal, etc ( Which is not true, btw. You can google studies and find that white people are more likely to do all of those things. ). then we see that POC are attacked and killed more often than whites. And they are not just attacked by other citizens, they are attacked and killed by the police force as well. So their deaths are usually brushed aside with excuses like “Well, the officer was in fear for his life.” Why? Probably just because that officer was dealing with a POC suspect.
When confronted with your white privilege, the correct response is NOT to defend it.
No one here is saying that white people aren’t victims of crime. However, crimes committed against white people are not a result of systematic racism and oppression. White people do not live in fear of police. White people do not have to worry about their children being gunned down in their homes or in their neighborhoods. White people have every advantage in this society, including the advantage of being able to feel safe and protected by said society.
So, shut up or you can come to my askbox and throw your tantrum there, but stop derailing POC conversations about their experience and derailing them by trying to make the argument that white people are somehow victims of “reverse racism”.
that shut down is just… my god. <3
